In 2021, the global alcoholic beverage’s consumption represented 244.62 billion liters. The first segment of the Alcoholic market by revenue is Beer with 40%. Spirits are the second-most important segment (30%) while wine is the third one (23%) but also the smallest segment in the Alcoholic Drinks market globally by volume.
In terms of consumption of alcoholic drinks, China is the first country globally with 27.5% of share.

In 2020, Top 3 Leading groups worldwide by number of brands are Diageo/United Spirits (32 brands), Pernod Ricard (20) and Beam Suntory (11).
Concerning the most valuable brands in 2021, the Top 10 are : Moutai, Wuliangye, Yanghe, Luzhou Laojiao, Gujing Gong Jiu, Jack Daniel’s, Hennessy, Smirnoff, Bacardi and Johnnie Walker.

In 2020, the worldwide wine consumption reached 234 million hectoliters and the worldwide sales’ value amounted billion US$ 340.8 which is 14.2% lower than the forecast in 2019 due to Covid-19.
In 2020, the Top 3 leading exporting countries worldwide were Italy (49.1 million hectoliters), France (46.6 million hectoliters) and Spain (40.7 million hectoliters). 
In terms of exports, Italy remains the first with 20.8 million hectoliters, then Spain with 20.2 and France with 13.6.
In 2019, in Europe France was the country with the highest revenue in the Wine segment (billion US$ 28.6) ; while in the Americas it was the US with billion US$ 53.6 revenue ; and in Asia it was China with billion US$ 26.3 revenue. 
In 2019, 46% of the Spending on wine was for at-home consumption, and it is forecasted to remain like this by 2025.
The five biggest companies (E & J Gallo, Constellation Brands, The Wine Group, Treasury Wine Estate and Vina Concha y Toro) together pack a worldwide volume market share of just 8 to 9%.

  • Experts observe a shift in consumer preferences towards fruits drinks. As a consequence, Cider, Perry and Rice Wine Markets are the growth drivers from the industry.
  • Due to Covid-19, the online retail’s share grew from 1.7% in 2019 to 2.8% in 2021 but it is forecasted to remain a niche sector by 2025 with 3.1% of the sales market shares. 
  • Still, in 2020 and due to Covid-19 there was a shift from offline purchases to online delivery for both food and drink goods.
