1- What’s a Logistics Manager ?

The logistics manager is responsible for organizing the storage and distribution of goods which a company sells. As a key role in the supply chain, s/he makes sure that every product is delivered to the right person, at the right location, in the deadlines, and by limiting the costs.
S/he is in permanent contact with transportation, storage control or warehousing management in order to manage the flow of goods. So, a logistics manager understands perfectly the different steps of the supply chain.

2- What are the main missions ?

  • Planning and managing logistics, warehousing, transportation, inventory
  • Directing, optimizing and coordinating full order cycles
  • Liaising and negotiating with suppliers, manufacturers and retailers
  • Developing business by gaining new contracts, analysing logistical problems and producing new solutions
  • Developing new strategies to aline processes and reduce cost
  • Performing metrics and data to identify issues and opportunities for process improvements

3- What are the required competencies ?

A logistics manager will have to coordinate a warehouse staff for example, so he needs management skills. Apart from that, here are some required competencies :
  • Perfect knowledge of the supply chain’s functioning
  • Analytical and metrics skills
  • Mastery of logistics and inventory software
  • Commercial and economics knowledge
  • Good time management ability

4- How to become a marketing manager in the Food & Beverage Industry ?

It is recommended to possess at least a Bachelor degree in the Logistics/ Distribution/ Supply Chain areas as Logistics is getting more and more complex with globalization, shortages and disruptions.
You can also get more qualifications with a master degree to access a manager’s position quicker. There are also diplomas specialized in Food Industry’s logistics. Indeed, manage a food industry’s logistics is quite complex because of sanitary norms, expiry dates or the cold chain for example.
