Handling and Shipping of NZ Manuka Honey Powder

Our New Zealand Manuka Honey powder boasts the highest solids content in our entire range, making it the most hygroscopic product we offer. It absorbs moisture rapidly when exposed to air, so it is not suitable for repackaging and resale. For best results, use it promptly in your applications. If only a portion is used, reseal the packaging tightly, removing as much air as possible, and store it in the refrigerator or freezer. The powder dissolves quickly in water, especially hot water, and can revert to liquid honey if exposed to moisture.

Honey Powder Manufacturing

The basic process allows for drying of the honey into a usable everyday powder, ready for use as a sugar substitute or applicable in other food and or cosmetic blends.

 We generally add maltodextrin as a powder stabilizer, in the ratio of 10 – 30% (to 70-90% dried honey solids) to assist the powder stay in powdered form. With maltodextrin, the honey will stay in powdered form for longer. At 30% maltodextrin, the powder will have at least a 3 year shelf life, provided it is stored out of direct sunlight and below 25 degrees Celsius.

Origin of source: All our honey in this range is produced and packed in NZ. It is made from 100% NZ manuka honey. 

NZ law prohibits the importation of foreign honey, so honey exported directly from NZ is guaranteed to be 100% of NZ origin, it can not have been diluted with cheaper foreign honey. NZ law also prohibits the use of antibiotics to treat for bee diseases (AFB, EFB). All our honey is guaranteed to be free from any antibiotic residues.

Laboratory Analysis

We regularly test of honey at specialized independent laboratories for a variety of parameters for the honey including:

• Floral type (Microscopic pollen analysis and NZ Govt’s MPI 5-attributes Manuka standard), 
• Manuka properties 4in1 (MGO, DHA, HMF, NPA,)
• Organoleptic properties: Color, conductivity, moisture,
• Microbial contamination: AFB, APC, yeasts & moulds, Salmonella, E.Coli
• Pesticide/Herbicide/Antibiotic contamination:  Coumaphos, Flumethrin, Fluvalinate, PDCB, Naphthalene, Heavy Metals, AMPA, Glufosinate, Glyphosate.
